Strong points
1. A school of swordsmiths based in Osafune, Oku-gun, Bizen Province (Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture), which lasted from the late Kamakura period to the end of the Edo period.
The swords made by the Osafune swordsmiths are highly regarded as Osafunemono, or Osafune-mono, as they produced many famous swordsmiths.
The sword said to have belonged to Kogoro Katsura, one of the three greats of the Meiji Restoration, is also said to be of the Osafune school (Bizen Osafune Kiyomitsu).
